If FILM CLUB is the episode that kickstarts the filmmaking journey, then MOVIE NIGHT is the pilot episode. Here we get to meet our main cast of characters and get a feel for everyone's personality, before they grow as filmmakers...
Initially, Brian and Azael were supposed to go out looking for movies at a video rental store (due to unforseen circumstances that was switched to an outdoor redbox kiosk). There they would come across an odd person, a self-proclaimed film snob, with whom they engage in some small talk. The person keeps pushing the idea of hanging out, making Brian and Azael feel uneasy. The situation escalates and they end up getting kidnapped.
When writing for this character, Brian and Azael had someone in mind but couldn't get a hold of this persona in the end. Azael eventually suggested his friend Jon Paredes for the role. After Jon read through the script they decided to give him the part. A few dialogue adjustments were made to better suit Jon and his antics er-uh I mean personality! The idea of him being a film snob in the beginning was also dropped.
Jon's character became a fan favorite and there's rumors that he might make a return in future episodes!
Robert and Damien's storyline remained mostly consistent throughout the entire project. Damien's character was intentionally portrayed as a blank slate, a new addition to the crew, in order to facilitate the introduction of the rest of the cast. In reality, Damien has been part of the friend group since high school.
